Tools

The Tools section has some Word documents & Excel spreadsheets that you can download or print.  They are easy to modify for your particular situation.

Monthly Hawking Log

This link is to a Microsoft Word document that tracks your birds performance by the month.  It is a basic monthly hawking log with no frills but it gets the job done.  And by placing it on the computer you can add more notes than by hand and you will actually be able to read your own writing!  Print them out each month and add them to a binder and you will have this log for life.

Hourly Weight Loss Chart

The following link is to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that tracts the hourly weight loss  of a hawk/falcon.  This is done by weighing your bird every hour throughout the day and tracking the loss per hour.  The birds true weight (empty) can be seen when, after giving the same measured amount of food for 5-7 days without weight gain or loss, the weight loss levels out to almost nothing at the same time each day.

All you do is enter the weight and the sheet automatically updates the "loss per hour" and "charts."  At the end of the day you can print out the pages and get a very helpful visual look at your bird.

Note:  This initial "true weight" does not indicate "True Hunting Weight" it just tells you what the actual weight of your bird is without the influence of food in the crop, digestive system or castings.  Once this weight is known it can be compared to the hawks behavior and the weight can be adjusted until the desired results (true hunting weight) have been found.

Hunting Permission Form

This is a standard Word document that has a hunting permission form.  Each page has two slips on it, just cut along the dotted line.

Hawking Diary

Here is a link to a company that markets an excellent Hawking Diary.  It costs about $30.00 but it is worth it if you like keeping exact records.  Click on the link and you will be brought to the company's website.  Tell them that the VFA sent you.
