Its that time of the year again. 

The 2010 VFA Summer BASH announcement is official!

The Virginia Falconers’ Association

Invites you to their

Annual Picnic, Auction, and Meeting

Saturday, August 21, 2010

at

Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve

In & adjacent to the Education Annex by the Visitor Center

 

The VFA 2010 HawkTalk journal will be distributed to members

 

Awards for Best Bird, Best Falconry Furniture, and Best Falconry Display

(Please bring your raptor(s) - all are eligible - the more, the better)

(Displays can be your bell &/or hood collection, photo collage, etc.)

          Social – 10:00AM - Socializing of members, their raptors and dogs, and interested persons.

We will have access to the picnic grove (with shade trees) and to the Education Annex building.

         Lunch Time- 1:00PM - - at the Education Annex & Picnic Grove

VFA supplied hamburgers, hot dogs, other picnic items & drinks will be provided at min cost.

Reservations would be appreciated.   Attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share with a few others.

Attendees are also asked to inform Andrew or Eva King so that sufficient lunch food and drinks can be provided.

        Falconry Art Displays - During the afternoon - Awards @ 3:00PM

Bring your best artistic effort or efforts

Your drawing, painting, carving, photograph, or homemade equipment qualifies

(Going for another success for this activity -  - the sky is the limit)

        Membership Meeting - 3:30PM

Status of EA on take of raptors and revision of Falconry Regulations

        Auction and Raffle - 4:30PM

Falconry Equipment (from jesses to telemetry), Art and Books, and more

(This is our major fundraiser - so bring your money or checkbook and participate)

There is still time for you to contact the Kings, (434) 987-1386, and donate an auction item or two.

         Departure - 6:00PM  to Home or to Dinner (Dutch treat at a Restaurant)

 Directions: A - From Rt. 7 / Leesburg (a) Go south on Rt. 15. (b) Turn left onto Evergreen Mills Road (Rt 621, first road on left after bypass ramps). (c) Go approximately 5 miles. (d) Turn right onto ‘The Woods Road’ (just after Believers Baptist Church). (e) Go approximately 1 mile (on the dirt road). (f) Turn left onto the paved road (at the board fence and Park sign). (g) Go about ¾ mile (past silos, old house with blue trim, and red storage shed) to parking area on left and on to the Education Annex near the Visitor’s Center in the Stone Manor House.

B – From the South (a) Go north on Rt 15 about 4 miles beyond Rt 50. (b) Turn right on Oatlands Mill Road (Rt. 650). (c) Go straight at the 2nd intersection (i.e., proceed onto ‘The Woods Road’). (d) Go approximately 1 mile (on the dirt road). (e) Turn right onto the paved road (at fence & sign). (f) Proceed per item (g) above.

 

Notes - VFA members, family and guests are welcome to attend all the VFA activities (i.e., the picnic, meeting, art competition, and auction), including any informal gatherings at a restaurant.  You might bring bug spray.

 

 

The VFA has an online store!!!  Now you can buy all sorts of merchandise with the club logo on it including mugs, note pads, T-Shirts and much more.  Be aware when buying apparel that there are several different grades available.  For instance there is a "Value T-Shirt" a "Fitted T-Shirt" and a "T-Shirt" all with different cotton counts.  Click on the link below and you can start buying club merchandise.

Thank you for visiting the Virginia Falconers Association's website.  Falconry is a traditional way of pursuing game with trained raptors and has a 4000 year heritage.  Our members are sportsman, falconry/raptor educators, breeders and conservationists.  You can learn more about falconry on our History of Falconry, Falconry Today and Becoming a Falconer pages.
